Star Wars: The Clone Wars

To find out how you can download Star Wars: The Clone Wars and thousands of other movies right to your computer Click Here!

Star Wars: The Clone Wars, on dvd November 11, 2008, is a Star Wars CG movie. While this does look a bit like something that you would see in a Saturday Morning cartoon lineup, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. While this was surely made to try and squeeze more money from the Star Wars name, I didn't feel like they were skimping on this movie. Watching this made me feel that the makers did take time and effort to really put out something that is worth watching.

This movie took a look at a part of the Anakin Skywalker story that wasn't covered in the theatrical trilogy (the most recent episodes 1, 2, and 3). While you don't need to know the story covered in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, I did enjoy it and think that it adds to the way that I view Anakin Skywalker before he took his big step over to the dark side. This story really helps show the personality of the character, adding to what the live action movies laid out.

The story of Star Wars: The Clone Wars has our main character, Anakin Skywalker, as a general in the clone army, fighting against the Separatist droid forces. The Hutts have a young family member kidnapped and it is left up to the Jedi Anakin and his new Padawan learner to rescue the child in hopes of strengthening Jedi relations with the Hutt family.

Featuring some talented voice actors and some decent CG work, this title was a surprise for me and one that I really enjoyed.

The Short Version: Star Wars: The Clone Wars on dvd is a CG movie sure to be loved by kids and Star Wars fans that has its story take place with a Jedi Anakin Skywalker before he made his move to The Dark Side.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army

Hellboy II: The Golden Army, on dvd November 11, 2008, was a sequel that I had been looking forward too since I saw the first Hellboy. I am a big fan of Ron Perlman and comic book movies in general. Movies based on comic books are typically films where you only have to worry about the acting and film work as you can be almost certain that it already has a solid story. If it didn't have a solid story, the comic book would likely never catch enough attention to be made into a movie.

This movie took the first movie and moved right along, staying true to the characters and adding to the journey that, Ron Perlman's character, Hellboy undertakes. A big budget movie, Hellboy II: The Golden Army features great makeup and special effects that help you enjoy the movie. There are some great movies that lack the budget that movies like this one have, but it just seems easier to enjoy a good movie when a solid budget is there.

The story of Hellboy 2: The Golden Army has our main character, a demon of sorts, and his group, of supernatural friends, seeking out a way to stop a bad tempered elf from reigning down an apocalypse upon the world. Simply put, just another day for Hellboy. The story is based closely on the comic and provides a great basis for which to show off the talent of the cast and provide some opportunities for impressive CG and special effects. This should be a fantasy story that both young and old can enjoy.

The Short Version: Hellboy II: The Golden Army on dvd is an action packed film that brings high production values and a great story to the screen, which should appeal to a wide range of viewers.

Beer For My Horses

To find out how you can download Beer For My Horses and thousands of other movies right to your computer Click Here!

Beer For My Horses, on dvd November 11, 2008, is not really my type of movie, but I can respect it for what it is and the audience that it targets. This comedy features famous Country Music singer/songwriter Toby Keith as a writer and actor. Apparently, the idea for the movie had something to do with a popular song he has done.

This movie has a story that I feel is on-par with similar films. The script has plenty of comedy in the dialogue which is likely a big thanks to comedian Rodney Carrington who worked with Toby Keith on the script. My guess is that if you have a hunting dog, drive a pickup truck with a GIT-R-DONE license plate, and own more guns than is at your local sheriff's office, you are probably a prime candidate for loving this comedy.

Beer For My Horses on dvd has a cast that is very entertaining to watch. Now this may not be a standard Hollywood A-list cast but it is an A-list cast if you are from the south or are a southerner at heart. The cast does an great job with the script and story that they have to work with. Along with Toby Keith, the cast features a nice selection of musical artists, actors, and comedians. Some more notable names from the cast are Rodney Carrington, Ted Nugent, Brit Morgan, Barry Corbin, Willie Nelson, Chris Browning, Claire Forlani, and Gina Gershon. I would even recommend watching the movie just to see this group of talent all together in a single movie if the names above are names you love.

The story of Beer For My Horses has our main character, a deputy sheriff, and his friend chasing off after drug dealers who have kidnapped his girlfriend. The story itself is nothing to applaud, but it does offer for opportunities to make jokes and do what this movie was meant to, be funny.

The Short Version: Beer For My Horses on dvd is a comedy that should appeal to those who enjoy southern humor and want to see what is a fun and entertaining cast grace the screen.

Reaper: Season 1

Reaper: Season 1, on dvd November 4, 2008, was an enjoyable watch for me. This television comedy features director Kevin Smith and it really shows he hasn't lost his touch. A solid cast featuring some younger talent combined with a story that is quite unique to television makes for an enjoyable watch.

Reaper: Season One has a cast that is very entertaining to watch and fit their roles well. The main character Sam, played by the fun-to-watch Brett Harrison, really shines as a reason to keep watching from episode to episode. Tyler Labine and Rick Gonzalez do a wonderful job as Sam's friends, providing plenty of humor and acting their parts very well. Missy Peregrym plays the beautiful girl that Sam holds as his heart's desire and she does a good job of filling her role perfectly. Perhaps one of the most interesting characters, and one that I have trouble deciding whether to love or hate, is The Devil (yes, the lord of the underworld) whom is played with great talent by long time actor Ray Wise. This cast is very enjoyable to watch and makes Reaper feel like one of the better shows out there.

The story of Reaper: Season One has our main character Sam being under the contract that his parent's made with The Devil before he was even born. This contract has Sam in the position of working for The Devil as a bounty hunter of bad souls that have escaped from Hell. While the story is quite silly, it makes for an excellent comedy and gets the viewer away from the all-to-common comedies on television that revolve around someone who lives in a normal city or a dysfunctional middle-class family living in the suburbs. While all may not enjoy it, this story was great fun for me and I think that anyone going into it realizing that it isn't just another television comedy should enjoy it.

The directing, script, story, acting, and just everything about Reaper: Season 1 makes it a great show that is worth a watch. I have to say that this show brings the full package to the table and was quite enjoyable to review.

The Short Version: Reaper: Season 1 is a comedy television show out on dvd that is great all around and was one of the more fun reviews I have done because I truly enjoyed every minute of watching it.

Moscow Zero

To find out how you can download Moscow Zero and thousands of other movies right to your computer Click Here!

Moscow Zero, an action/suspense title, came to dvd on November 4, 2008. A lower budget film, this title does a commendable job with a good cast, interesting setting, and a story that hasn't been seen a dozen times before.

Moscow Zero has a cast that did a fairly good job. I personally felt that Oksana Akinshina, who plays the girl in this movie, stood above the rest with her youth not getting in the way of her understanding her part and delivering some convincing acting. Val Kilmer was in this film and I had hoped that he would do a little better than he did, but I would vote his performance as satisfatory for his role and the constraints that the dialogue put on him.

The story of Moscow Zero was interesting and it probably helps that I have a bias towards liking movies and television that deal with spiritual and religious topics and ideas. Sadly, the script itself seemed to lack and the film as a whole was somewhat of a bore, at fault of the scripts dialogue.

This is classified as an action/suspense film but I felt that both were fairly lacking. If you go out and get it expecting it to be an action packed movie with explosions and intense gunfights, or are looking for something to keep you on edge and guessing what will happen next, you will probably be disappointed or fall asleep. If you are looking for a film with a good story idea, some religious subject matter, and actors that do a decent job at trying to make the best of the dialogue they are given, then Moscow Zero is a dvd that you might want to look at.

The Short Version: Moscow Zero will put you to sleep if you are looking for a traditional Hollywood dose of action and suspense but should keep you interested if you like actors working well with what they are given and story that is good if you can get past the script.

House Arrest

House Arrest, a comedy, came to dvd on November 4, 2008. I want to start this review of House Arrest by saying that I am likely not the target audience for this film and I probably missed some things, but I do feel I have an overall close to complete understanding of this film and what its intentions are.

House Arrest has a has a fairly no name cast of that do what I would expect. They perform their roles within the overall expectancy for a film like this. There were no shining stars that I saw, just paid actors earning their money. Believe it or not, the vanilla acting from this cast was not the worst part of the movie. The script sounds like it was written by a couple guys with no experience writing, or even watching movies outside of How High and White Chicks.

The story of House Arrest is a stretch even for a comedy. It is a stretch that I would find offensive and an insult to my intelligence if I was in the position of the target audience for this film. I am going to skip the story as it is stupid and as I do not want to waste any more of my time reviewing House Arrest than I already did while watching the DVD.

The Short Version: House Arrest feels like a script written by wannabe Wayans Brothers or a Dave Chappelle without talent, with a story that I hope the target audience finds offensive, and a no name cast with an expected level of acting that is the only thing close to an upside.

The Good Life

To find out how you can download The Good Life and thousands of other movies right to your computer Click Here!

The Good Life, a 2007 Sundance Selection, came to dvd on November 4, 2008. It features a notable cast with actors Mark Webber, Chris Klein, and Bill Paxton, along with actresses Drea de Matteo and Zooey Deschanel, among others, all providing wonderful talent to this film.

The Good Life has a wonderful cast of familiar faces that really bring it to the table. It is a shame that the script and directing do leave something to desire and drag this film down from what could have been a very high place. I really feel bad for these talented artists of the silver screen as they brought an A game but lost out because of that which they could not control.

The story of The Good Life revolved around Mark Webber's character (Jason) working at a movie theatre who has trouble fitting in with the rest of the small town where he lives. He finds comfort in old classic movies until he meets Zooey Deschanel's character, Frances. Having Frances to stir up his life, Jason proceeds to make decisions that are the main focus of the film, in this coming of age drama.

I was not terribly impressed by this film aside from the above expected acting from the cast. The acting talent in this film really did save it and I would recommend if if you are a fan of any of the actors and actresses, or have not yet had the pleasure of seeing a work with Mark Webber in it.

The Short Version: A coming of age drama which is worth watching only for the cast and the talent they bring to the screen.

Chill

To find out how you can download Chill and thousands of other movies right to your computer Click Here!

Chill came to dvd on November 4, 2008. It is a horror film that has a decent low budget cast and a somewhat interesting story.

The cast and story make this a watchable flick but those two points can only make up for so much. The cast is far from the A-list, starring Thomas Calabro (from Melrose Place), Ashley Laurence (from Hellraiser), and James Russo (from Bad Girls). Not being A-list doesn't stop the cast from saving this film a little face. Horribly written dialogue really drags Chill down but the cast makes do with what they have to pull off some fairly decent acting.

Being a low budget horror film, Chill stays true to many of the low budget horror genre; it has decent makeup/costume work and horrible special effects. Expect to say "Wow" when you see this but not Men In Black on opening day wow. I am talking "Wow... I think I saw better special effects from a low budget 80's movie." The director would have done better heading down to a local community college and asking some student with a laptop to whip up something in his free time. It couldn't have been much worse than what it was.

As I said earlier though, the cast did a good job. They deserve their paychecks from this movie. As an overall, I would say that Chill has some good and some bad to it. It is a film that you could enjoy if you were in the right mood, or desperate for a horror film and willing to try to like it.

The Short Version: A low budget horror film that sports decent acting and an adequate story, being dragged down by bad dialogue and very poor special effects.

Batman: The Complete Animated Series

To find out how you can download Batman: The Complete Animated Series and thousands of other movies right to your computer Click Here!

Batman: The Complete Animated Series is a box set that came to disc November 4, 2008. This is a full collection of all the episodes from Batman: The Animated Series that aired in the 1990's on television and set a standard for animated tv shows due to its action packed artwork and great storytelling.

I truly enjoyed watching Batman: The Animated Series on television when I was younger. I appreciate when a show I love is assembled in a single box set. Not only does the Batman: The Complete Animated Series box come with the whole series, it also includes a few things that fans of the television show should love; episode commentary, featurettes, and a documentary.

You don't have to be a hardcore Batman fan or have watched Batman: The Animated Series on television back in the 90's to appreciate this. Children to adults can sit down and enjoy this wonderful portrayal of one of the most popular "superheroes" to ever grace the pages of a comic book. If you have found yourself enjoying the recent big Hollywood superhero movies but are unfamiliar with Batman: The Animated Series, then this is the perfect opportunity for you to view what may be one of the greatest cartoon kid shows in the history of cartoons on television. Not limited to kids but still age appropriate for even younger children, Batman: The Complete Animated Series box set is something worth a look if you have children or just would enjoy watching this yourself, no matter what your age.

While Batman: The Complete Animated Series does contain animated violence, it is not excessive and should be appropriate for most children. The series includes the crime fighting theme that Batman is known for, going after the bad guys in the name of justice for those who cannot get it for themselves, and should serve as a positive influence for a budding superhero.

The Short Version: An animated series from the 90's that tells the story of the comic superhero Batman, including animated violence that is not excessive and was meant for children to be able to view when created.

Get Smart

Get Smart hit DVD on November 4, 2008. It is a comedy action movie starring a cast including the funny Steve Carell, the talented Anne Hathaway, former wrestling superstar Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and quite a few other talented faces that you might be familiar with.

I really enjoyed this easy to watch film. Get Smart had a solid cast of humorous personalities and I am always a fan of flicks with Steve Carell and Dwayne Johnson in them. While this movie was not a complete box office star, it still did well for itself and provided a solid comedy title that can be enjoyable for a family to watch. The production value seemed quite good for the genre and I felt that both the necessary budget and quality crew work was there to make the movie as good as it was.

The story involves an agent for a group known as CONTROL (the good guys) who ends up going up against agents of KAOS (the bad guys). Our agent and main character, Maxwell Smart (Steve Carell) must stop a bombing in Los Angeles, working alongside a female agent (Anne Hathaway) who doesn't think that Max has what it takes to work in the field on an important assignment. Sparks fly between these two characters and you have to cross your fingers and hope that they can pull it together and stop the bomb in time.

While involving violence and some adult language, I am of the opinion that this movie is suitable for teens and should be quite enjoyable as it has an entertaining cast and a quick pace that shouldn't lose attention. If you are looking for something to watch with the family for a movie night, Get Smart is a good choice and a movie that lasts as long as it needs to without dragging on until you are just plain bored or ending sooner than you would like. It should keep attention of both teens and adults who enjoy action/comedy flicks.

The Short Version: A fun action/comedy movie that is teen friendly and has a solid cast that really makes up for any lacking in the story.
